Women should never be made to feel like they have to wear certain clothes, walk on a certain side of the road, double back on themselves, enter a shop when they don't need anything, go out of their way to avoid someone, grip items in their hand tightly to use as a defense mechanism, make fake phone calls, or be worried about exercising alone. They should never need to take self-defense classes, carry a personal alarm or have to drive everywhere out of fear for their safety. We don't need to live in a society where we have to teach our children that "this is the way we do it to stay safe". We don't have to live in a society where women feel immediately nervous at someone walking towards them, walking too close behind them, be over-vigilant because of dangers that should not exist . No, it's not all men. If a woman approached me and said she needed help because she felt she was being followed, I would stay with her as long as it took or walk her home so she felt safe - but I also consciously make an effort to ensure that women and the elderly feel safe. I say hello, I smile, I cross the road, I slow down, I make eye contact to let them know "I'm not a threat". It's okay saying "Not all men..." - but do your actions back up your statement? . We need to make women feel safe, everywhere. . . . #women #womensafety #besafe #besafeeveryone #walkinghome #mikemeetslife #saraheverard #timetochange #actionsspeak #actionsspeaklouder #feelsafe
